6 Hair Hacks You Need to Try Now
Brooke Tucker-Reid, Lifestyle Writer
When I look my best I feel my best, but looking my best takes time. Time I don’t always have, especially after hitting snooze a couple times before getting up to go to work each morning. I’ll literally do whatever it takes to shave a few minutes off my morning routine to get ready for the day, like styling my hair the night before. Here are a few hair hacks that will help you do just that, and maybe even save a few dollars too. Sugar spray FTW A DIY saltwater solution does the trick if you’re aiming for that beachy hair look, but a sugar water solution will leave your hair feeling softer and smoother with a flexible hold. Depending on how much hold you’re after, dissolve 1-2 teaspoons of sugar into each ½ cup of boiling water. Once it’s cooled, transfer your solution to a spray bottle and voila! Babylights: low maintenance colouring trend If you like to mix up your hair game from time-to-time, but can’t be bothered to touch-up your roots, ask your colour tech for babylights next time. This technique mimics the natural highlights children get from the sun around their faces. It’s a subtle look, so like balayage highlights, maintenance is fairly simple. Dryer sheets Frizzy hair is a form of static so in a pinch, a dryer sheet can come to your rescue like a mini, scented superhero cape. Toss one in your bag or desk drawer for emergency frizz situations. Master the half bun I love the half bun look, but I was never sure how much or how little of my hair to put up. If you have thick hair, don’t pull hair from below your eyeline. If your hair is thinner, pull a bit more hair up to make the bun seem fuller. Got layers? Consider coiling your pony to keep your strands in check. Think twice before ditching your old mascara wand Tame fly-aways and frizz by using a cheap toothbrush or repurposing an old mascara wand along with a little hairspray. Spray the wand or brush with hair spray (or your newly concocted sugar spray) and brush back your unruly loose hairs. Fragrant locks So you got a chic blowout a couple days ago but you don’t want to wash your hair quite yet? Spritz your hairbrush with a little perfume to mask any unwanted odours.
Keep that hair game strong, lovelies!
