Juice cleanses have been all the rage lately. They’re meant to detox your body and boost your immune system. Essentially, the ingredients in the juices are meant to be used as a tool to help make you healthier and feel as good as possible.
I have always been super curious about juice cleanses and whether or not they actually work. So I took the challenge.
I bought the one-day Detox & Boost cleanse from Fresh. I should probably preface this article by saying that it says on the site that this is their intermediate juice cleanse. I am not an intermediate and have never done a cleanse before, so I probably should have gone for a beginner one!
The cleanse has 7 juices that you are supposed to sip slowly throughout the day.
It began with the Immunity Power Shot. This is the juice that I liked the least. Actually, I could barely tolerate this one because it was so incredibly bitter! I guess this makes sense seeing as though it’s supposed to wake you up and activate your body.
The second juice was the Charcoal Green Lemonade. This one was a lot better. It tasted just like lemonade only a little sweeter due to the maple syrup in it. The Healer was next and sort of tasted like orange juice. No complaints. The Urban Detox was basically a salad in a bottle – with kale, spinach and parsley. The Daily Dose was a lot sweeter with goji berries, almost like a smoothie. The Clean Green was similar to the Urban Detox again with spinach, parsley, and apparently dandelions? Lastly was the Mad Chocolate which was a sweet dessert-like end to the cleanse.
So in the end, would I recommend the juice cleanse? Well, I wouldn’t not recommend it. I think a one day cleanse is rather harmless and will probably make you feel good if you’ve been eating poorly. The cleanse however, was not personally right for me. I did feel a little more awake and rejuvenated, but it didn’t live up to my high expectations. I should also note that I typically don’t really like juice and would rather just drink water.
A few additional notes about the cleanse:
-The juices only last a few days. So if you don’t manage to make it through the full cleanse, the juices go to waste. (But I guess this is also just a sign of how fresh the ingredients actually are)
-I like eating! While I didn’t necessarily feel hungry during the cleanse, I like the feeling and texture of actual food rather than liquid.
-The juices come in glass bottles. This means they’re heavy to carry and take around with you. I felt like I couldn’t really go anywhere or be mobile.
-I felt like it was way too much liquid. I couldn’t fully finish all 7 bottles.
-It is rather expensive
I’m still glad I had the opportunity to try the cleanse but it’s not something I would necessarily do again.
