Rarely do I wear a lot of makeup. I wear foundation everyday and a little bit of blush – but that’s it. I’ve never been one to wear mascara or use eyeliner or eye shadow. I literally wouldn’t even know what to do with an eyelash curler or how to use highlighter.
But, in honour of our new website, I decided to try something new and give myself a new look. #NewUsNewYou.
Eye shadow and eyeliner seemed like the perfect place to start. Baby steps.
I’ve heard all my friends and beauty vloggers raving about NYX, so I figured that was a good place to start. Since I have darker features, I was recommended to go with gold and bronze colours for eye shadow. I picked up the NYX Rose Dust and J’adore. I also bought the recommended eye shadow brush, as I’m ashamed to say that I don’t own one! All of the products were incredibly well priced, which sort of shocked me considering the supposed quality.
Instead of buying eyeliner, I decided to finally use the Marc Jacobs eyeliner given to me for free from Sephora for my birthday. (My friend works at Sephora and told me to go get a birthday gift – otherwise I would have never known!).
My first few days trying out the new look, I felt like a clown. I went out with friends and felt way too fancy! Eyeliner is surprisingly hard to put on and I don’t think I did it properly. I also didn’t really know how to put on the eye shadow. How much are you supposed to use??!
However, I surprisingly got a lot of compliments. People seemed to like the new me.
As the week went on, I felt more and more comfortable doing my makeup. I actually was sort-of beginning to enjoy it! It was nice to dress up a little bit with such a simple change.
I kept getting better, and I enjoyed the compliments that kept on coming!
As my week came to a close, I had an internal struggle. Would I continue wearing makeup after this challenge or was I truly just a lazy girl at heart?
Well, I have to say, I haven’t continued wearing a lot of makeup everyday, but I am still experimenting and am more open to the idea of wearing it. I do like putting it on when I have a little bit of extra time in the morning, and am happy I got to experience a new me!
