We’ve seen the shapewear trend explode in the past few years – thanks to the Kardashians. Kim Kardashian came out last summer saying that she wears two pairs of body shapers at a time, and Kylie admitted to wearing Spanx butt wear. And because I secretly want to be a celebrity, I jumped at the chance to try the Canadian equivalent, Svelte Shapewear.
However, this shapewear is a little bit different. Svelte is designed to be worn as clothes and not under your clothes. I decided to try the Tight Ankle Leggings for myself and see what all the hype was about.
Even before trying on the shapewear, I was impressed. The packaging is super cute and the exclusive fabric that Svelte shapewear leggings are made of is high quality and feels amazing. With normal leggings, I am always concerned that they will be see-through but these were thick and were super comfy. The 4-way stretch fabric offers a delightfully soft, comfortable and non-restricting way to shape my silhouette.
I was pleasantly surprised that I didn’t feel at all constricted, and could move just as freely and easily in these as in any other legging – only these slimmed me down! You always hear about Spanx being so tight that you can hardly breathe – but Svelte is different.
I wanted to dress up the shapewear and decided to go with a classic blazer-like jacket and heel booties instead of the typical athelisure look that you normally see. Because the leggings were so thick and sturdy, and my stomach was tucked in, I paired a black turtleneck sweater with the outfit instead of opting for a long shirt that extended past my butt, like I usually do.
Overall, I am really happy with Svelte shapewear. The leggings don’t suck you in too much to the point where you can’t breathe, and they gave the perfect amount of lift and flattening which will make you feel confident wearing them.
