One of my favourite parts about contributing articles to Sheblogs each month is being given a topic to write about. Most of the time, on my own blog, I stick to my comfort zone. I mainly write about fashion, beauty, food, and sometimes I’ll share blogging tips. Obviously, those are subjects I love to talk about, but it’s always a fun challenge to be given a topic from someone else. This month’s Sheblogs #INsider theme is: Talents.
This month’s theme really got me thinking. Do I have a specific talent to write about? I mean, I’m good at a lot of things, but what am I the best at?
You know what I realized? I don’t think I’m ‘the best’ at anything! Of course, I realize that sounds a little bit negative, especially for someone who claims to be confident, but it’s true! I don’t have one specific talent, or one thing that I excel at compared to other people. On the other hand, while I may not be the best at anything, I can say with confidence, that I’m good at a lot of things.
When you’re the best at one specific thing, that’s what you’re known for. One of my closest friends from high school is one of those people. She is a performer and has an incredible singing voice. She was the best singer at my high school, and everyone knew her for that reason. Everyone told her how talented she was and that she’d go on to do great things with her talent. Sure enough, she did make a career out of singing and performing. Even though she was the most talented singer in high school, she experienced a harsh reality upon entering the ‘real world.’ In her industry, everyone is talented! She went from being the best, to being like everyone else. As you can imagine, in the beginning, it was a struggle for her.
Of course, it’s a lot more common to be like me and have multiple talents. It didn’t come easily to me, but I did well in school and played the saxophone in the band. I also have a natural eye for design and photography. When I’m in the mood, I can also cook up a delicious meal – and end it off with a fabulous dessert. I’ve taught photography and social media workshops, and created an online brand presence for myself.
Am I the best at any of these things? Heck no! Am I good at them? Yes, absolutely. A lot of it comes down to the fact that I’m dedicated and I hustle hard. I’m driven by success.
My guess is that you can probably relate to being good at a lot of things, rather than being the best. There are very few people out there, who are the “best” at anything! Just because you’re not the best at any one thing, doesn’t mean you lack talent. In fact, it’s quite the opposite! You have many talents. And, if you’re open to trying new things, you can discover new talents all throughout your life.
