Being a Millennial isn’t easy. There’s school, work, finding a job, balancing the work/social life balance – it can be pretty overwhelming. We wanted to find out what millennials like YOU were up to and how you were dealing with the real world.
This week we interviewed Kennedy, a 22 year old living in Toronto. She is an Assistant at a food advertising production agency and has been working there for almost a year.
What led you to the position you’re in now?
I have always been fascinated with the world of advertising. Everything about this fast paced, ever changing industry drew me in. What really confirmed my interest in this field were my various summer internships. First hand experience was no doubt the best introduction I could have asked for! I am currently working at a small advertising production company and I’m really happy with where I am right now.
How did you finally realize your decision was right for you? / Is it right for you? Do you wish you would have pursued something else?
I think that being in my early 20s is both a blessing and a curse. There seems to be so much pressure on finding the perfect career; something that you enjoy and are good at. But what’s great about being in your 20s is that there is room for risk, trial and error. I don’t think that I can say that I’ve found exactly what is right for me just yet, but I believe that I am going in the right direction.
Do you have any advice/tips for those applying to the program or want to major/ go into the same field as you?
Make genuine connections. Be kind. Work hard. All experiences are valuable even though they might seem fruitless. Always keep yourself busy, learn always: do research, talk to mentors, share experiences with others. Stay curious and eager! Figure out your strengths and weaknesses.
Stay tuned next week for another Millennial chat!
