Confessions of a Messy Girl
Taking time for yourself is different for everyone. Some people need quiet, some need physical exercise, and some even find calm & relaxation in what most of us (ok, maybe just me) consider work. There have been so many articles on “clean house, clean mind”. The world has embraced Marie Kondo like she is the next Mother Theresa.
Some of us are just not naturally organized people. I don’t find relaxation in chores and avoid them like my last blind date. Yet, I am one of those people that needs a clean and tidy environment for my mind to be at its most calm state. There is such a satisfying feeling when my space is all sparkling and organized, but it just doesn’t seem to be enough to motivate me to git’r done. It’s quite the pickle to be in really.
So, here it is, I am going to challenge myself to be better at organizing and cleaning on the regular rather than leaving it for some absolute emergency reason that requires a 12-hour cleaning session. To me this seems like an unsurmountable challenge, I am a natural born quitter. I am not sure who quits more, me or the baristas at my local Starbucks.
I realize I am kidding myself if I try to do this all in one weekend, it’s just not my nature. I am going to attempt a daily 10-minute tidy routine to start getting myself into a habit and feeling more productive and proactive, this seems far more achievable to me than a Marie Kondo attempt. I may even try and get a little competitive with myself and try and up it by a minute per day, although that could be pushing it. And after my 10-minute tidy, I am going to reward myself with 10 mins of me time as a reward.
So tonight, I am going to go home and find my kitchen counter, I am pretty sure it is right where I left it, but I can’t be certain with all the crap piled on it.
Stayed tuned for updates, I figure if I tell you there will be updates, I am forcing myself to go through with this plan; And if you never see an update feel free to call me a quitter down below.
Update - Day 1
So my very first take 10 to tidy turned into 25.5 minutes to do my dishes and find my kitchen counter, and I was right, it was were I remembered it to be. How is it I have 4x the amount of dirty silverware than actual plates and bowls? Todays reward, mint chocolate ice cream, straight from the container of course because this girl is not doing another dish.
