Oh, the good ol’ high school days. It’s been forever ago, yet I remember it like it was just yesterday.
High school is scary enough, but I started Grade 10 at a new school on the east side of town. Making new friends, meeting new people and adjusting to new classes was hard.
In order to make the adjustment a little easier, I decided to jump right into my studies and signed up for classes I was interested in, in order to make new friends with common interests!
The first class I really wanted to sign up for was music. I have always been attracted to music since I was little. I like jamming in the car (who doesn’t) and always was awe-spired by musicians. Previously, I had taught myself how to play the piano in a very basic manner, but that didn’t really progress into anything. Starting fresh, I decided to learn how play the flute in music class, which my teacher had suggested.
I played the flute throughout the rest of my time in high school and absolutely loved it! I even joined the school band and dedicated my time to try to improve. I finally got good enough that I was able to play in the band for the high school talent show! I felt accomplished and glad that I had set my mind to something and followed through.
Part of the reason I loved band so much was because my music teacher was the best. He was such an amazing musician, and I always admired his skills. I never regretted joining band and it was one of my favourite experiences during my high school days. There are some songs that I absolutely loved playing and I still have the music sheets to this day. I’m so happy that I pushed myself and learned a new skill. If you stay in your comfort zone you will not be able to experience some of the amazing things around you!
What is something that has pushed you out of your comfort zone?
