Toronto will soon take centre stage when the Toronto International Film Festival begins on September 5. Raise a glass and celebrate this special season with a TIFF-inspired drink! In true festival spirit(s) Victor Restaurant, Northern Maverick Brewing Co., and Oretta have created TIFF-inspired cocktails, available exclusively during the festival run.
Buttered Popcorn Old Fashioned
Victor Restaurant’s head bartender, Albert Chan, is buttering up patrons with his Buttered Popcorn Old Fashioned, a sweet twist on a beloved classic. Like every good drama, the Buttered Popcorn Old Fashioned delivers the unexpected. Just when you think you have the flavour profile of Amaro Averna, Luxardo Cherry and bitters figured out, you’re hit with the pleasant surprise of butter washed Lot 40 Rye. Served with everyone’s favourite movie snack – buttered popcorn – this drink will have you on the edge of your seat.
The team at Oretta will have you seeing stars during TIFF with their stunning Aurora cocktail. This libation leads with Casamigos Mezcal and Luxardo Maraschino with supporting notes of fresh mint, dried herbs, butterfly pea syrup and embellishments of yellow Chartreuse, thyme, lemon and smoked Maldon salt. Boasting a stunning fuchsia colour and bold rich flavours, the Aurora looks and tastes as though it was set designed and directed by one of Hollywood’s best.
The Curtain Call
Courtesy of Northern Maverick Brewing Co.’s head bartender, Liam DeBoer, The Curtain Call balances warm, herbal spices from golden-amber Benedictine liqueur with sweet pineapple, cinnamon, anise and clove. Finished off with lime and star of anise, The Curtain Call delivers rich and sophisticated flavours making you feel as though you’re in la la land. Just like one of TIFF’s most anticipated flicks, you don’t want to miss the curtain call on this stand out cocktail.
How will you be toasting TIFF this year? We hope you’ll be checking out these awesome drinks! CHEERS xo
