Versatility with your wardrobe is key. Especially with current fall weather being all over the place, you want to make sure that your fashion choices have longevity as we transition into colder months.
If you’re like me and usually shop with no set items in mind, then you’ll often find yourself with pieces that you don’t know how to fit into your current wardrobe. So, I’ve started putting myself to the test when I’m out hunting for a good steal and ask myself these questions:
- Do you need this? More than just right now but like, down the road?
- Will you regret not buying it? Will it give you a twang of sadness if you don’t buy it and see it’s sold out in 2 weeks?
- And, finally, the most important question: what can you wear this with in your closet at home?
The last question, is albeit the critical crux in my purchasing decision. If I can’t think of at least 3 different ways to wear the item than it just isn’t worth it.
And it all comes down to styling, and getting creative with what you already have to make the new piece work.
So, with that in mind, here are 5 different ways to style the Urban Outfitters Cher Plaid Dress.
- Clueless
Play up the “Cher” aspect of the dress by aiming for a classic 90’s school girl look with a modern twist.
Throw a fitted black turtleneck on underneath and pair it with uber-girlie white socks reminiscent of some childhood outfits from long ago, and classic black loafers. Soon enough you’ll find yourself saying “as, if” and falling in love with your ex-stepbrother…
- Leather Weather
Toughen up your girlie plaid dress for some bad-ass vibes with a pebbled, vintage-inspired motorcycle leather jacket, felt hat, and ankle boots. Not only does it contrast the femininity of the dress, but also gives your outfit major attitude.
- Get Twiggy with It
Vintage is in, and the 60s were all about plaid and cool contrasts. So, pull on a chunky knit, cat-eye sunglasses, and slip on some mules because this look is all about channeling major mod icons like Audrey Hepburn, Twiggy and Patti Boyd.
- Boss Babe
Female empowerment is making major waves right now, and what better way to embrace your inner boss babe than to start with your wardrobe. Adding something as simple as a long trench and thigh-high boots to your cutesy plaid dress can not only give you powerhouse vibes but a little sex appeal too.
- Snazzy
Sure, neutrals are great to pair with plaids, but who says you can’t have a little fun with it. Think snazzy (urban dictionary style—a word used to describe “general coolness. An exclamation of the subjects’ shiny funk factor”) by pairing your plaid dress with something you wouldn’t usually gravitate towards. Like, a boyfriend jean jacket with colourful patches and some “snazzy” silver platform oxfords.
Love all the diversity! Really interesting idea to pair the turtle neck under the dress. Interesting read. Thanks!
