Let’s try something different. Weekends are the time we let our guard down when it comes to spending money because, well, treat yourself, am I right? We go out to a bar, restaurants, the movies and more often than not, shopping. If you are searching for fun ways to challenge yourself to a weekend of activities that cost almost nothing, try the No Spend Weekend Challenge with us!
Here are some suggested ways to spend less money this weekend (that we recommend) and still have a productive and fun time.
Board Game Night
Board Game Nights are a great way to have friends over or spend time with your family without leaving the house. Your guests will find nostalgic games and activities entertaining. Add a couple of glasses of wine to add to the fun!
Write a Journal
If you are looking to become more self-aware and reflective this year, take some time to journal on the weekend. Think about your goals, schedule, and ideas. If you are feeling a little more creative, you could even write short stories, drawing or poetry. It is healthy to express yourself through journaling and drawing, and it helps your creativity flourish.
Go for a Free Trial
This suggestion is very open minded because there are tons of free trials out there -free trials for fitness apps, computer programs, to online games and music apps. Make yourself a fun workout, or playlist, find an old game you used to play, try to learn something with free trial classes. Or learn a new skill, the possibilities are endless!
Borrow a Book or Movie From a Friend
If you are more of a low key weekend person and need some time to unwind, ask one of your friends what their favourite book or movie is and see if you can borrow it! You may be surprised how much you like it or how many conversations it will open up next time you catch up with that friend.
Bake Something Fun!
Who doesn’t love to bake! The free app, Yummly not only makes cooking and baking easier by listing ingredients and tracking your food restrictions, but they also have a ton of recipes with very few ingredients, so they are easy on your budget and quick to make!
Go Jogging or Hiking
Go out and get some fresh air. It is an easy way to explore your neighborhood and all it has to offer, bring your camera, take your friends. Nature calms the mind, and you could even make a day of it and go hiking on a trail nearby.
Organize your Home
If you are feeling ambitious, take a weekend to organize and declutter your home. Check out our article on tips to reorganize and declutter your home here.
Clean out Your Phone, Tablet or Computer
This is something that can easily be done from the couch. Sit down and go through all the files, emails and photos on your phone, tablet or computer and delete anything you feel you do not need. You’ll be surprised how much crap builds up in our devices! It is an easy way to organize your life a little bit without even getting up.
DIY or Pinterest Craft Night
If you are looking to save a bit of money but want to stay busy, feel free to check out Pinterest for cool DIY ideas and crafts, you’ll be surprised by how many things you may have laying around your home. There are hundreds of cute and fun crafts you can make with almost nothing!
Netflix Binge
If you have not already invested in Netflix, you are in for a treat. Try a month for free and see how you like it. It is an inexpensive way to keep yourself entertained with tons of movie and tv show selections in any genre. Not to mention their Netflix Originals are amazing! There are also other options other than Netflix if you are looking for select shows or movies like Hulu or HBO.
Volunteer
Looking to build your resume and give back to your community? Volunteering is a great way to do both. You won’t even THINK about spending money while volunteering and it is such a rewarding experience. You can help with children, at the food back and even at your local greenhouse. There are places all around your city looking for volunteers so, give it a chance if you feel like giving back this weekend.
