So I’m kind of obsessed with learning about celebrities and their cult favourite hair and beauty products. I often screenshot products from Instagram so I can go out and buy them later.
Something I fell in love with about a year ago was the haircare brand Ouai Haircare, created by celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin (who is often seen doing the Kardashian/Jenner’s hair) recently came out with a haircare line that has everyone and their mama wanting a piece!
Her line includes everything from shampoo and conditioner, dry shampoo foam (it’s real and I can confirm that I’m obsessed), styling products – the Texture Spray is my favourite, and restorative masks and oils. The Ouai Treatment Masque has been my favourite hair mask for a while now and as I looked through my haircare drawer, yes it’s a whole drawer, I noticed that that mask is the only one I have right now.
For years I have had colour treated hair that encounters hot tools and a lot of damage. The ends of my hair become quite brittle as it grows out which makes it nearly impossible to comb through when wet. I’m often trying new haircare products for my hair, I spend a lot of money on my hair colour so I try to maintain and protect it from damage for as long as I can. I tried The Ouai Treatment Masque on a whim. I was lined up in Sephora when the check-out aisle obviously tempted me (don’t lie, you’ve also fallen victim to its pull), The packaging was really cute and Jen Atkin’s name attached to the product really was a selling factor for me – at that point it didn’t matter if the product was trash.
I went home and tried it that evening, and OMG was I surprised!
First of all, the scent is amazing, you feel like you are in a salon, the product itself was soft and smooth and massaged into the scalp really easily. The instructions indicate to leave it in for 10-15 minutes so I went about my usual leg-shaving, exfoliating routine before I rinsed it out. After I finished my shower I noticed my hair felt so soft, the ends felt really smooth and didn’t look or feel matted together. I wanted to give the product a fair shot so I didn’t put any other products on my hair, I began brushing it through and I nearly died! It’s not often that I rave about a product because really a lot of the time it’s just great marketing but the results my hair was getting from just one use was crazy! The next morning when I went to brush my hair through it felt so soft, the ends were barely tangled together and it still smelt like a day in Ms. Atkin’s chair.
Since I do have colour treated hair that often encounters hot tools the idea of this product was so intriguing, knowing that Jen Atkin’s celebrity clients are in the same boat with their hair I hoped that this product would be a success. I find myself reaching for this mask closer to the time right before my hair needs a trim/colour fill, I concentrate it mainly on my ends and use the rest to work through my hair. If I notice that I have a lot of product buildup in my hair I’ll take a tip from Ms. Atkin herself.
She recommends that if we are headed to the gym or spa we should work the treatment through our hair before a sweat session and let the heat help it penetrate our hair. You can wet your hair a bit before you head out to the gym and massage it in. Afterwards, rinse and blow-dry and we promise you will not be disappointed.
When it came time for me to put Ouai’s other products to the test I was not surprised by how much I like them, you can’t go wrong with the awesome results it produces. The cute packaging and amazing smell doesn’t suck either. Now that they are a permanent product in the line I can buy a box that comes with 8 packets for $40, that will last me at least 6 months. I would definitely suggest trying out this celebrity-approved product, who knows, maybe it will become your new favourite!
