Since Canadians only gets to experience summer for a short amount of time, we make sure to take advantage of the warm summer months and enjoy every last second of it! Part of being Canadian means that there are so many different ways for us to enjoy June through August. Between the scenery, the food, the time spent with family and friends, the activities (think water sports and cottage adventures) we have lucked out with being one of the best countries to enjoy this season!
If you are looking for ways to enjoy your summer, look no further, we have a few ideas that will keep family traditions alive and the adventures new and fun.
Whether you’re packing up for a week-long adventure or simply pitching a tent in your backyard camping is a true Canadian classic for enjoying long summer days and warm summer nights. Want to really rough it? Pack up a canoe and set sail along the French River for a week, they have fishing, hiking and provincial parks you won’t want to miss!
What’s more fun than a spontaneous road trip with your friends? I’d beg to differ that little to nothing takes the cake. Throw a dart at a map and jump in the car and go! An adventure like this is not for the weak at heart, if you are in need of extra maps and satellite determined directions then maybe volunteer to be the driver! That way you can ensure you get to your destination with ample time to explore. Don’t forget your snacks!
It’s only right that we support local and small business owners. Canada is home to countless craft brewers that are bringing something new to the beer scene. Enjoy lunch on a patio or invite friends over for a BBQ, either way, be sure to taste some of the new brews Canada has to offer!
This is a given! If you grew up in Canada, then I think it’s fair to say that there were a couple mornings where you were woken up at the crack of dawn and dragged by your parents to your local farmer’s market. Now, there are so many more to be explored. As Canadians, it’s become a right of passage to look to these local farmers for fresh and delicious produce. Fruits like prunes, grapes, cherries and peaches are perfect for the summertime. I’m a personal fan of Cherries because they are an easy healthy snack that everyone can enjoy. It’s only right that we take advantage while the season allows it!
Canada is home to some amazing wineries. You can make it a day trip or a weekend getaway where wine and relaxation can be in full swing. Wine tours are great because you get to enjoy samples and food pairings as well as the gorgeous scenery that is a winery!
Visit an Orchard!
Visiting an orchard is such a fun and easy way to enjoy a day outside. Since our summers are so short and summer fruits are only available for about a 4-5 week window, we must take advantage of all the fresh fruits and vegetables that are available for us at orchards! Orchards usually have something for everyone, whether it’s a tractor ride, picking fruit in the fields or choosing your favourite basket of cherries to take home, an orchard is a great one-stop shop for fun, food and memories!
One thing Canadian’s pride themselves on more than an excellent poutine is the family oasis that is the cottage. Whether you grew up owning, renting or visiting a cottage it was always guaranteed to be a good time. The cottage is really a summer home away from home, raid the fridge and enjoy a bowl of healthy and tasty BC Tree Fruit cherries while you have a lazy day on the couch, go for a hike or a boat ride or take a dip in the lake and work on that tan. Take advantage of BBQ season and incorporate cherries, peaches and more in tasty recipes. Being cottage-bound is never a bad idea!
Whatever you decide to do this summer season just make sure you have fun! Don’t be afraid to try something new or honour tradition and keep to your annual adventures. Summer is the ideal time to make memories and this year should be no exception!
