That’s it, I’m declaring it officially spring time! I’m so over this Canadian winter and have been longing for warmer, colourful days. And nothing screams the end of winter quite like open-toe season filled with espadrilles, flip flops, strappy sandals and more!
If you haven’t seen my Instagram Story on Crowd Social yet, I put myself to the task of finding a new pair of fun spring/summer shoes at Aldo, and they definitely delivered. The key to a good spring/summer shoe for me is that it’s fun. Of course I have a plethora of neutrals to back my wardrobe but if anything is going to help usher in summer it’s a fun and colourful shoe.
And out of all the shoes I tried on, I really wanted something that even though it was colourful and fun, I could wear a multitude of ways with a variety of the clothes already in my closet.
And I decided on…the peppermint!
A super affordable and standout slider that is sure to up the ante of any outfit. I said it in my story and I’ll say it again, if I were to ever be a shoe, this would be it, comfortable with multi-colour pink, orange and red fringe topped with contrasting blue pom poms. And trust me, my friends will attest to that. I love colour.
But you might be asking, “Kyra sure they’re cute, but how can you wear them?”
Well I’m here to show you!
You Gingham Be Crazy
When people see a colourful shoe, their first instinct is often to assume you have to wear neutral coloured clothes with it. But that’s not necessarily the case. Try mixing it up with matchy-matchy patterns like a gingham set worn here (mine is Zara but you can find similar here and here), stripes, polka dots and even floral. The key is to keep it in the colour family. If you’re doing a pattern like gingham, opt for a blue shade that ties in with the pom poms or even go for one of the redy-oranges. By keeping it in the same colour family, the shoe instantly brings the whole outfit together instead of sticking out like a sore thumb.
Boho Brunches
A staple in most millennial lives is brunch. It’s like a sub-culture in-and-of itself. You want to look cute, but not like you tried too hard. It’s the ideal boho-casual look. So try pairing your peppermint sliders with ripped jeans like these Citizens of Humanity ones, a breezy off the shoulder blouse found here, and a raffia purse (mine is vintage, but you can find similar here).
Date Night Bright
Totally in love with your sliders and want to wear them out on date night but don’t know how to dress them up? Try pairing them with a slinky satin slip dress. The midi length gives you major sex appeal, while being light weight enough to transition from day to night.
Experiencing a cool summer breeze? Throw on a boyfriend-fit denim jacket with fun patches. They’ll compliment the fun shoe and give you the perfect “undone” sexy look for dinner, walks on the beach and more.
