When you think of summer what do you think of? My guess is it might very well consist of a backyard, a pool and some bomb food and drink! One thing we can guarantee is how fresh and delicious summer seasonal food is. Between corn, peaches and cherries you really can’t go wrong. It’s just a shame that these delicious foods are only around for a short time for about 4-5 weeks from June-August.
If you ask us, we think it’s only right that we make our contribution to society and gift you with a recipe round up of our favourite meals that feature a delicious summer treat, cherries! If you aren’t into cooking don’t worry, BC Tree Fruits cherries are a great summer snack that is local, healthy and can easily be enjoyed on their own. But hurry, cherries are only in season for a short time, so, go to your grocery store to pick up your BC Tree Fruits cherries now! Be sure to #LookForTheLeaf.
If you want to try your hand at something new then read along to see what you’ll be bringing to the next BBQ.
Now we know what you are thinking. A cherry salsa, you’ve got to be kidding me! But seriously, trust us! We all love a classic guacamole or pico de gallo this salsa is more than just a salsa. It’s versatile! Enjoy it served with tortilla chips or spooned over grilled chicken or fish for a beautiful and delicious summery main dish. The sweetness of the peach with the tart tang of the cherries paired with a salty chip… need we go on? Presentation is key so make sure this Okanagan Cherry Peach Salsa is picture perfect. You want to make sure all your friends take pictures and go Instagram crazy over this crowd pleaser!
We don’t care what anyone says. Find me a party with finger foods and you’ll find all the fingers find the food! More times than not, at a party, the main thing people fill up on are the appetizers. The main meals are good and all but what people really get excited about are the snacks, appetizers, finger foods, h’orderves – whatever you want to call them. We came across this recipe, and at first we weren’t sure, but after further investigation we’ve come to realize that the Crostini with Balsamic Roasted Cherries and Goat Cheese are a crowd pleasing summer appetizer that we just might not be willing to share. The creaminess of the goat cheese, the lip smacking cherries and a crunchy crostini make for the perfect finger food appetizer, no plate required.
There is just something about chocolate and cherries that go so well together. Something that would make that better you might ask. Amaretto! This dessert is 100% going to make you wish you were living a life of leisure in Saronno while Luigi feeds you cherries. The Chocolate Cherry Amaretto Creamsicle is so easy to make and is something that can be enjoyed in the comforts of your own home, alone, not sharing with anyone, or with a group of friends on girls night!
So go ahead and get cooking this summer – and if you have a BBQ, be sure you remember to invite us too!
