Do you ever have questions about your own vagina but feel too shy to talk about it? It’s for this reason alone that there are so many myths out there about the vagina. So let’s talk and straighten these out! Here are the most common myths that are thought to be true by so many women.
The health of the vagina is mostly due to how often you shower.
This is not true! The health of the vagina mostly comes from what we are eating and consuming (birth control, etc.). It is commonly thought that the more you clean yourself “down there” the cleaner your vagina will be. But in truth, the pH levels of the vagina can easily get thrown off by a lot of chemical soaps that are so commonly used. Even the pH levels in our water can throw off the PH levels in our vagina. When the pH levels in the vagina are not in balance it is a breeding ground for infections. One way to keep a pH levels in balance is with pHemme® Fresh. It can help maintain a balanced pH level (pH3.5 – 4.5) which is deemed optimal for a healthy vagina and protect against vaginitis, inflammation, irritation and odor. Plus, it’s paraben free, hypo-allergenic, and the patented design Smooth Comfort® Applicator which is pre-filled, eliminates the discomfort from the traditional applicators, and therefore allows greater ease of penetration and maximum comfort.
Once the vagina gets stretched it can never go back to its original ‘tightness’.
This is not true. The vagina is a muscle just like the rest of the body and with the right exercise can become just as tight as it was before all those babies and sex you had…bet you didn’t know your vagina could do that! Strengthening the pelvic floor can be done through practices such as yoga, pilates, weight training, swimming, or even just holding the pelvic muscles tight throughout your day. Sitting at your office job all day? Do some cheeky kegels – no one will even know ;).
Having an odor ‘down there’ means you have an infection
Not true! Vaginas have their own odor and it’s nothing to be alarmed about. The same way your mouth may have an odor in the morning or after you eat, the vagina does too! Like we said above, the odor can change depending on what you are eating and consuming. Now, if there is an unusual smell coming for your V out of the blue then yes, maybe get it checked out, but a slight smell can be normal
Thick discharge means there is something wrong down there…
This is not necessarily true either. The texture, odor and colour of our discharge changes throughout our monthly cycle. When we are ovulating and a couple days before and after, the texture is usually quite a bit thicker than it is the rest of the month. These variations are nothing to be alarmed about!
There’s something wrong with you if you can’t have a G-spot orgasm
Again, this is not true. It is very common for women to not be able to achieve a G-spot orgasm from intercourse until they reach their 40’s or sometimes ever. The porn industry and other societal norms have caused us all to think women are supposed to be getting a G-spot orgasm every time they have sex. A lot of women feel bad about themselves or think there’s something wrong with them when they can’t achieve that. We’re here to tell you this isn’t the case! So many women can only achieve an orgasm from clitoral stimulation and that’s more than okay. pHemme® Intimate personal lubricant gel can help provide comfort and pleasure during intimacy. It’s a high performance lubricant gel that uses natural ingredients to hydrate and moisturize the vagina so you can feel confident enough to attain or not attain that ‘O’!
It’s time we talk openly about all things vagina so that we can beat these myths and stop feeling bad about ourselves when we aren’t living up to societal expectations that we think are true. Own your body, own your experience! Start by talking to your girlfriends, sisters and mothers about your body and see how easily the truth comes out!
