As I prep for my upcoming vacation and for the glory that is summer, I find myself looking for the best sunglasses.
Like the “cherry on top” that pulls it all together, sunglasses are inevitably that additional accessory that can really add to your summer wardrobe. Heck, even jeans and a t-shirt can look uber cool with the right sunglasses. But not every pair of sunglasses matches every outfit, and so I’m left looking for sunnies that can I can pair with chill days in the park, or summer weddings and more.
“I’m not the kind of girl that spends crazy money on my sunnies either. Trends change quickly and while a few classic pairs are always great to have, it’s still fun to have some cheaper trendier pairs for those days you want to branch out.”
So, I hit the streets running in search of the best sunglasses for every occasion and this is what I found:
Vintage Inspired
The perfect sunnie from Canadian eyewear brand Bon Look, the Galactic in Moon gives off major 60s vintage vibes. Whether you’re wearing them with high-waisted tapered jeans and a tee or a cute summer dress, these are sure to up the ante on any outfit.
Slim Shady
As fashion of the future continues to look to the past for inspiration, we’re inundated with the 90s slim eyewear. On celebs like the Kardashians and Hadid sisters, the tiny sunglasses trend is making a comeback in a multitude of ways. Try a simple angular rectangle pair with fun colour lenses like these from Urban Outfitters. Want to go full Hadid? Pair your tiny sunnies with a chic athleisure look from the likes of Champion (also making a 90s comeback), perfect for running errands or grabbing a quick drink.
Round the World
Aside from the aviator, another classic shape to emerge in the last few years that still seems to be prevalent is the round sunnie like these ones from H&M. Slightly vintage and universally flattering, the round shape in a deep black adds a more modern aesthetic and pairs well with an all-black outfit, white kicks and your hair swept up into a bun. Nothing screams minimalism like simple lines, monochromatic accessories and brunch on a sunny patio.
Classic and Colourful
There’s no surprise factor when you think of aviators because they’re a classic that have been popular for a while. But by opting for a colourful tinted lens, like this fun yellow from Marsquest, you instantly step into sartorial street style mode. I plan on wearing my yellow sunnies this summer with an all white outfit or matching them with my yellow one-piece swimsuit when I hit the beach.
Cat’s Got Your Tongue
Weddings? Date? Fancy for fun? Try a cat-eye. All I think of when I wear mine is Rizzo from Grease and I’m ok with that. They’re super feminine, sexy and add a little sex appeal to any outfit. Style ones like these from Zara with a silk slip dress and mules or a floral mini dress and leather jacket for a “pink lady” look. Regardless of how you style them, a cat eye is easily becoming a classic style that will be around for a while.
