Fashion week happens in all parts of the world, at various times of the year. However, the notable ‘Big Four’ happen twice a year; in Paris, Milan, London and New York. The Big Four round-up usually sets a precedence for most fashion we see gracing the covers of magazines, tv screens and on social media world-wide. For this reason, the shows are usually timed to display fashions seasons in advance. Since we are now entering Fall, the runways will be filled with Spring/Summer 2019 looks for seasons well in advance – makes pre-planning that wardrobe a little easier.
Get ready for an overhaul!
This year it seems like fashion is all about the future – with technology leading the way we will see a lot more interactive fashion and shimmery metallic hues. Think the Jetsons come alive – it’s crazy to think this was once just a thought to anyone who grew up in the 80’s. Even Disney took a spin on fashion, they collaborated for an introduction like no other! Disney villains in the future – and it was spectacular. Ladies, if you’ve ever wanted to be a Disney villain, this is your year!
Future Frenzy!
Designer A Human has already set the bar high with body modification garments, while not fashion, a very important part of where it is headed. The age of alien has arrived and people are loving it. Soon we should see very unique looks walking the streets. Have we gone too far?

Talk about a glimpse into the future! Lauren and Chico’ s runway show took it to a whole new dimension! From hair, visors and bright colours to skin colours of various hues, it is hard to imagine that the world may one day recognise this as normal attire.
Making A Statement
Politics are also making a huge comeback on this year’s fashion runways. Looks like designers just can’t get enough of it – plastering slogans and idealism’s across the chests of models and on backdrops of their shows. Guess people will be talking, might as well make a statement with a revolution all their own. Will this aid in social change for society as a whole? Who knows, but we certainly will have fun wearing controversial pieces while trying.
Designer Jeremy Scott has the fundamentals to make a statement and make the world hear it loud and clear. No doubt fashion frenzied youth and music moguls will be sporting his fashions soon. Bring on the controversy and wear it loud!
Metallics, Holographs, Iridescents!
One thing’s for sure, John Galliano has always been ‘over the top’ when it comes to fashion. That being said, we are often surprised by the things he comes up with and in turn those fashions are almost always reciprocated by the general public eventually. This year is no different! A genius combination of lighting, textures and impressive use of shine have brought that futuristic look to the runway with potential to grace the streets soon enough. These looks will be no stranger to our future purchases – I can almost guarantee that.
Not sure I am crazy about where the fashion world is headed, but I have to admit the creativity on some of these collections is amazing. For the everyday folk though, I am sure that it will take some time for us to get used to the martian wear that has landed on planet earth.
Metallics, body modifications and politics, the fashion industry is no stranger to shocking the world and pushing the boundaries. While simple, clean and wearable fashion also graced the stages during fashion week it looks like the bold statement pieces are where it is headed for the upcoming seasons.
Perhaps the future is now, and we are about to get submerged into an alternate universe we’ve been dreaming of for quite sometime.
What do you think? Will you be sporting any of the looks you’ve seen on the runway?
