I’ll be honest: I’m not a huge fan of winter. I’d much rather be relaxing on a warm beach than freezing in the snow. However, one thing I do love about winter is the holiday season. Seeing all the pretty lights and decorations makes the cold weather a lot easier to deal with. There are also lots of activities I like to do over the holidays that make it a great time of the year.
I’m a sucker for Christmas movies. My family has a tradition of going out together to see a new movie every year right before Christmas. We haven’t decided which movie to see this year (suggestions welcome), but it’s something I’m looking very forward to! In the meantime, I’ll be watching cheesy Christmas movies on TV any chance I get.
When the weather isn’t too terrible, I love going ice-skating. My dad taught me how to skate when I was very young. Some winters, we would be at the rink for hours every night. I still haven’t quite mastered the art of balance, but I always have lots of fun.
One of my favourite things to do any time of the year is shop. Thankfully, the holiday season gives me an excuse to shop even more than usual. I love picking out the perfect gift for everyone on my list (and maybe picking out a few things for myself, too).
One of the best things about the holiday season is the food! Is it bad if I say one of my favourite things to do over the holidays is eat Christmas dinner? Because it is. I also can’t wait to start doing some Christmas baking. Soon enough, my kitchen will be overflowing with snowman-shaped sugar cookies.
The one thing I love most about the holiday season is getting to spend time with my family. I have a large family that is spread out across two provinces, so it can be difficult to get everyone together often. We have lots of fun catching up, playing board games, and exchanging gifts.
Writing this post has gotten me so excited for the holidays! I have plans to set up the Christmas tree with my family tonight and now I’m totally in a Christmas-y mood! Happy Holidays, everyone!
