Spring has sprung across (most of) Canada, but instead of sunshine and blooms it’s been rain, rain, and more rain. Thankfully there’s a silver lining to every dark cloud and I’m finding mine with some brand new goods. Here are 8 pieces that will have us all singing in the rain (while looking oh-so-cool):
Metallic City Slicker
Find your inner golden girl in a hot number from Simons’ always-on-trend TWIK line. Aside from the awesome hue, this coat has a whole lot going for it from an adjustable drawstring waist to a handy hood that’s perfect for deterring frizz. $89, Simons.ca
Slip-on Booties
I love my BOGS so much that I wear them through sleet, snow, rain and (yes) even shine. Its matte Quinn booties have grippy soles and Max-Wick technology that, unlike most rubber boots, means they never get sweaty and stinky. They’re on repeat so often that my husband has started to complain, but when boots are this cute and comfy, how can a gal resist? $100, bogsfootwear.ca
Sharp & Sheer
Why hide an instagrammable outfit under an opaque poncho? This see-through raincoat from Zara shows off the goods, while keeping you as dry as unbuttered toast. $69.90, Zara.com
Pour-proof Plimsolls
On those misty days when big boots are overkill, take it down a notch in a pair of low-key kicks. Hunter (the royal family’s go-to bootmakers) has launched desert camo plimsolls with pink rubber soles and a canvas upper that’s totally shower-proof. $145 at ca.hunterboots.com
K-Way (or the Highway)
I had a K-Way when I was twelve, but these French windbreakers have come a long way since I wore it in a pouch around my waist. The oversized Mabelle model (part of its Maje capsule collection) comes in blue leopard print with ¾ sleeves, zippered pockets and a detachable hood. Oui oui! $165, k-way.ca
Rubberized Leather Bag
There’s nothing worse on a wet day than a soggy handbag. Hunter’s pretty cross-body bag achieves two important tasks: it keeps your bits and bobs dry, and doesn’t make you look like you’re about to go hiking. Oh, and did I mention it comes in something called Panther Pink? Groovy. $250, ca.hunterboots.com
Classic Trench (With Edge)
If you want to channel your inner Holly Golightly (she looked pretty darn gorgeous clutching a cat in a rainstorm, don’t you think?), Banana Republic’s mink grey eyelet trench is made from water-repellent canvas with a laser cut belt, deep pockets and a whole lot of chic. Meow! $238.97, bananarepublic.ca
Birdcage Brollies
Fulton umbrellas are a favourite of Queen Elizabeth’s (that feisty style maven!). It’s transparent dome models are perfect for protecting a carefully arranged ‘do while offering clear views of puddles and one’s adoring public. Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain. $35, thebay.com
How will you be staying fashionable this Spring?
