There’s something about snowfall, early evening darkness and tiny white lights that makes for a perfect romantic backdrop. This Holiday season, curl up on the sofa with a big bowl of popcorn and your favourite soft blanket and enjoy these tried and tested films for a night out with the most romantic screen stories you will ever watch!
Serendipity (2001)
Perhaps the cheesiest of all holiday flicks – this one is a classic! Two people meet while shopping for gloves for their respective lovers although they somewhat fall in love (at first sight if you will) with each other. They decide to test fate by splitting up and seeing if destiny would bring them back together. Years later, they get close to meeting a number of times but fate will have the final word on whether it was meant to be and the story unfolds on a whirlwind romantic adventure.
The Holiday (2006)
This American romantic film will pull at your heart strings – definitely a classic chick flick! Two women torn about love from opposite sides of the Ocean, temporarily exchange homes in hopes to escape heartbreak and end up finding so much more to love. Predictable, but hopelessly romantic!
White Christmas (1954)
If you are a sucker for old films and really love the holiday season, then you need to watch White Christmas! After leaving the Army, (post W.W.II) a famous song-and-dance team become romantically involved with a team of sisters who are also a team of performers- join together to save the failing of the Vermont inn of their former commanding general. Music, magic and romance in one classic film!
While You Were Sleeping (1995)
A lonely woman saves a man’s life and becomes a part of his family. With fate on her side people begin to realize that she is a wonderful person, especially the man’s brother. Realistically heart felt and a series of coincidences make this romantic film easy to relate to. You’ll especially love the clothing choices of the 90’s and the simplicity of life – especially at Christmas!
