Your health, mood and bodily functions rely on many factors such as lifestyle, food consumption and everyday events, however, the consumption of the appropriate amount of water plays a huge role in making those factors remain healthy overall and curbs cravings too. The reality of it is, that we all reach for a glass or two of the refreshing H2O from time to time, but do we really pay attention as to HOW much we are actually taking in?
I challenge you to an experiment I recently did at home - the parameters are simple, mark down every time you drink water throughout the day and then come back to this post, because chances are you are probably NOT drinking the recommended amount of water, just as I wasn’t.
Summer Time = Dehydration
While keeping tabs on your water, make sure that you are not jotting down the times you drink coffee or other beverages - instead, cross off 8 oz of water every time you do. Water should be doubled when drinking coffee.
Many believe that you should drink at least 8 cups of water per day while others believe that you should drink at least 1/2 your body weight in ounces to achieve ultimate consumption. The answer to all of this is simple, follow your bodies’ cues and if you are feeling dehydrated make sure to drink! As well, the colour of your urine is a big indicator as to how hydrated you are - if it’s yellow and not clear then make sure to up that water level!

Coffee is a liquid right?
Yes, coffee is in fact a liquid and can be notably argued that it works the same way water does, but many new studies suggest that it is in fact a dehydrator and should be consumed with equal amount of water to off set it.
*Tip* Flavor your water with fruits for an infused treat that can be altered to taste every time you guzzle.

Good news is, water is, well, pretty much free. Purchase a fancy bottle and fill up almost anywhere for a cool hydrating fix when on the go. What’s better is that your body will reap the benefits too, healthy skin, toned abs and muscles who thrive on the liquid you fill them with. Forget the sweet fix or that fruit smoothie next time you want to fuel up because those will just make you more thirsty. Summer means hydration, so keep it craving the good stuff! Your body and your pockets will thank you for it.
